Linking Calculation Result to Cost Item field

The results of calculations can be assigned to any number of different fields in the cost items tab of the Cost Item Assembly record. It is common to link dimensional calculations to the Forecast (T/O) Quantity fields of various cost items, but calculation results can be linked to many other fields such as Productivity fields, Description fields and even Resource Employment fields such as Quantity or Code.

Use the following step-by-step to link a calculation result to cost item field.

Step by Step — Link Calculation Result to cost item field

  1. From the Ribbon, select the Setup tab.
  2. Under the Assemblies section, select Cost Item Assemblies to open the Cost Item Assembly Register.
  3. Right-click the Cost Item Assembly Record you want to edit and select Open.
  4. Go to the Cost Items data block.
  5. Right-click a value in the field you want linked, such as the Forecast (T/O) Quantity field.
  6. Select Link this field to Calculation Result..
  7. With the Link to Calculation Result selection register open, find and select the calculation result you want to link to this field, and click OK.
  8. These calculations are created by the user prior to linking the values field. The linking of calculation results are similar to linking to Embedded Excel Workbook values in any previous version of Estimate.

  9. Return to the Cost Items data block in the Cost Item Assembly Record. The linked values now appear as a hyperlink value.
    • Hover over the hyperlink. A tooltip shows the calculation name and the formula used in determining the calculation.
    • Selecting the hyperlink takes you to the selected calculation on the Inputs/Calculations data blocks.
